The Cocker Spaniel is # 29 in 2017, in 2003 it was #14 in the AKC most popular Breeds List. Even if it lost popularity to other dogs it is still in the top 50! The Cocker Spaniel is the smallest of the Spaniels and is also in the Sporting Group. The Cocker Spaniels have been split into the American Cocker Spaniel and the English Cocker Spaniel. In shows they drop the Country Name. The American has a much longer coat but they both need a lot of care to keep it trim and not matted. They love to have things in their mouths retrieving on command or just happy to bring your slippers. Of course I fell in love with this dog from, "Lady and the Tramp."
